LIVING IN EPSOM

Epsom in Surrey is a lovely traditional English market town, nestled between the hustle and bustle of London and the serene rolling hills of Surrey, making it a wonderful place to live.

Famed in days gone by for the healing properties of its water – maybe you’ve heard of Epsom Salts, which contained minerals extracted from Epsom’s spring water – but today known more for its horse racing venue – Epsom Downs Race Course, which each year gets the royal seal of approval when The Queen attends the Derby.

MORE ABOUT EPSOM

Its market town heritage continues today with loads of shopping options for those looking for labels and those battling for bargains. Epsom has a large selection of high street names in its shops, restaurants, bars and the busy Ashley Centre shopping mall. The town centre also hosts a weekly fruit and veg, flower, fish and traditional market under the clock tower.

Epsom has an abundance of open spaces and parkland in and around the town centre. Horton Country Park has been treasured by locals since medieval times, and today offers 400 acres of park and nature reserve enjoyed by cyclists, walkers, kite flyers, fruit pickers and nature lovers the county over. Epsom Downs is another fabulous open space, with unspoilt heath and woodlands and panoramic views across the whole of London.

There is also lots for kids to do with Bocketts Farm Park for farm animals and play areas, Chessington World of Adventures and Hobbledown Children’s Farm. Epsom has an excellent choice of schools for all ages, with 25 primary schools, eight secondary schools and seven colleges, as well as numerous nurseries.

For golf enthusiasts there are three 18-hole golf courses in the area, for fitness enthusiasts there is the Rainbow leisure centre and a David Lloyd, and for entertainment enthusiasts there is an Odeon cinema and several theatres, a couple of art galleries and a museum.

TRAVEL

Epsom is ideally positioned for those travelling into the City each day, being in the London commuter belt, and just 35 minutes from Waterloo direct from Epsom Railway Station. To the south, the town’s proximity to the M25 – Junctions 8 and 9 – means easy access to the rest of south-east England.
